SUMMARY:Misophonia – what it is\, what it isn’t\, and how to help clients
DESCRIPTION:Time & Location\nFriday\, July 7th 2023 \n10AM-1:30PM – CEU/Speaker Presentation \nAbout The Event\nFriday\, July 7th 2023 \n10AM-1:30PM – CEU/Speaker Presentation \nCourse meets the qualifications for 3.5 hours of continuing education credit for LMFTs\, LCSWs\, LPCCs\, and/or LEPs. CEU completion certificates will be awarded after participants complete the course evaluation after speaker presentation. \nLocation: Online (Zoom Webinar) \nZoom details\, along with the course evaluation\, will be emailed to you one week prior to the workshop\, after you have registered and paid for this workshop. Once the workshop is over\, you will need to email the course evaluation in order to receive your CEUs. \nCourse Description: \nCalling all mind/body therapists…the Misophonia community needs you! \nMisophonia is still a mystery to many people\, let alone therapists\, but it is estimated to affect up to 20% of the population. Getting help has been considered an area of specialty with short term “treatment” that mostly focuses on coping skills\, reframing cognitive perceptions\, and “learning to live with it”. However\, there can be hope and growth with a much-needed shift from a “can’t fix it” paradigm to a “what can we learn from it?” approach. While most therapies have used a “top down” cognitive framework\, brain/body modalities that work “bottom up” with the body have much to contribute to helping Misophones find relief from trigger symptoms and the common emotions of rage\, disgust\, guilt\, and shame. \nThis workshop will cover what Misophonia is and is not\, what is happening in the brain and body when “triggered”\, and how brain/body modalities such as Internal Family Systems “parts work”\, Somatic experiencing\, Brainspotting and EMDR can be used to help Clients unpack\, learn\, and heal from the pain and trauma that surrounds the experience of living with Misophonia. \nAbout the Presenter:  \nKresta Dalrymple is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who specializes in complex trauma and dissociative disorders\, is a Certified Complex Trauma Treatment Practitioner level 2 as well as being certified in Brainspotting. Kresta lived with Misophonia for 35 years before finding freedom. She credits the modalities of IFS and Brainspotting with helping her find relief from triggers and the shame typical of the Misophonia experience. Kresta is passionate about using what she has learned to help this community find similar healing and freedom and is on a mission to provide education and support for therapists already working with Clients suffering from Misophonia. \nYou can hear Kresta share her story on “The Misophonia Podcast:” https://www.misophoniapodcast.com/ \nLearning Objectives- participants will be able to: \n\nLearn about the cluster of symptoms that define the Misophonia phenomena according to research and lived experience\nLearn how to differentiate misophonia from other disorders\nLearn 3 common trigger categories and understand what the trigger experience feels like\nIdentify 2 ways trigger sounds/sights affect the brain and body\nLearn how to conceptualize brain/body modalities to help find relief from symptoms\nTips on assessment and when to seek additional support\n\nPasadena Trauma Therapy\, Inc. is approved by the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT) to sponsor continuing education for MFTs\, LCSWs\, and LPCCs. Pasadena Trauma Therapy\, Inc. maintains responsibility for any program/course and its content. Provider Number 86858.

Society has long been fascinated with the elusive nature of cults\, resulting in numerous media depictions and dialogue about how they manifest. Participants will leave this workshop with an understanding of the diverse forms of cultic groups\, indoctrination pathways\, mental programming tactics used to exert coercive control\, generational survivor nuances\, signs and symptoms of cultic abuse\, and intervention strategies for recovery and supporting survivors through their healing process.\nLocation: Online\nZoom details\, along with the course evaluation\, will be emailed to you after you have registered and paid for this workshop.\nOnce the workshop is over\, you will need to email the course evaluation in order to receive your CEUs.\nLearning Objectives- participants will be able to:\n1.) Identify 3 components that make a cult\n2.) Identify 4 pathways of indoctrination\n3.) Identify 5+ mind control tactics that perpetrators use on victims\n4.) Identify at least 2 forms of group-facilitated trauma that consist of cultic dynamics\n5.) Identify 3 types of generational survivors and accompanying treatment goals\n6.) Identify 5+ symptomatic presentations of cultic trauma in survivors\n7.) Identify 2 safety concerns and risks with respect to escaping a cult\n8.) Identify 5+ engagement considerations and therapeutic interventions\nAdditional Information:\nAccommodations: Facilities and programs are accessible to persons with disabilities.
